What words of wisdom or advice do you live by?

There is this saying that we stand on the shoulders of giants so we can see further on the horizon. I stand on the shoulders of the giants that came before me like my mother and Kamala Harris – both women of color who paved the way for a woman like me to succeed. My goal in life is to bring up as many young women as I can, stand them on my shoulders, and let them see even further than I was able to.

What advice do you have for working in a virtual/socially distant society?

Don’t burn out! Now that I am working and studying from home, I have caught myself working from 8:00 a.m. until midnight. Without lengthy commutes, in-person meetings and lunch outings, I have been chained to my desk feeling like I need to take advantage of the extra time. It is important to remind yourself that working from home does not mean working more. It is important to dedicate time in the day to watch your favorite show, take a walk around the block or enjoy a cup of tea.
