How did you discover your passion for what you do?
I discovered that I had a passion for what I do when I was about a year into my current position. I was giving a guided tour to students through our temporary art exhibition on the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. The questions I was being asked made me realize how important the arts are in education and in retelling difficult histories.
Who is your mentor, and how did he/she shape your career?
My mentor is the woman who introduced me to the field of museum education. Alice Novak’s passion and knowledge are what made me want to stay within this area. She also made sure all of my projects were very hands-on, that I had a voice at the table and that I was introduced to everyone, regardless of my position. She has always been one of my biggest advocates!
What words of wisdom do you live by?
“A girl should be two things: who and what she wants.” Coco Chanel
