Alumna Service Spotlight – Jamie Bero

Delta Zeta Women's Membership Organization | Delta Zeta Sorority

Service has always been at the heart of Delta Zeta. Members may start their service journey during their collegiate years, but that doesn’t mean it has to stop after graduation. Alumnae across the globe continue to give their time, talents and leadership in meaningful ways every day.

Delta Zeta has an ambitious goal of logging 1,000,000 service hours by the end of the biennium on June 30, 2027. Every hour volunteered, through community involvement (such as the PTA, animal shelter or food bank) or Delta Zeta chapter-related initiatives (such as philanthropy events, service projects or volunteering at a SeriousFun camp), helps us become one step closer to realizing that goal. Through logging your service hours, you are inspiring others to get involved, ensuring your impact is recognized and contributing  toward our shared goal. All Delta Zeta members — collegiate and alumnae — are important to help us achieve this goal.

One example of phenomenal alumnae engagement is Jamie Bero, Epsilon Theta, PennWest/Clarion. Her dedication to service truly embodies the values of Delta Zeta.

As an alumna, Jamie remains deeply involved in Delta Zeta through multiple leadership roles. She currently serves as State Alumnae Association Chairman for Alaska and Hawaii, is a member of the National Ritual Team, supports collegiate members as Ritual Advisor for Delta Upsilon (Marshall University) and contributes as a graduate scholarship reader. Her continued involvement demonstrates how alumnae can stay connected and make a lasting impact.

Beyond Delta Zeta, Jamie’s professional and volunteer work further amplifies her service. As an assistant professor of fire science at the University of Alaska/Fairbanks, she mentors future firefighters and advises the Fairbanks Firefighter Club. She also exemplifies leadership as the SkillsUSA Alaska firefighting chair, recently organizing a statewide competition and preparing students for national competition.

Jamie was one of the inaugural recipients of the Community Impact Through Service Individual Award at the 2025 Everlasting/National Convention event in Orlando, Florida. Through decades of service to both Delta Zeta and her community, Jamie is a reminder that service is a lifelong journey.

Delta Zeta members are making a difference all around the world, so we encourage our alumnae members to support these efforts. Now is a great time to reflect: Did you volunteer in your community this month? Mentor a student? Support a Delta Zeta chapter? If so, those volunteer hours can and should be logged! Logging your service hours takes only a few minutes, but the impact lasts much longer. Together, we can celebrate our collective service, make a difference in our communities and help reach our goal of 1,000,000 service hours.
