Celebrating a Mother–Daughter Bond Through Alumnae Initiation

Delta Zeta Women's Membership Organization | Delta Zeta Sorority

Through alumnae initiation, Delta Zeta creates opportunities for women with shared values to share in our sisterhood. This has been especially meaningful for Kayla Flott Kruger, Theta Eta, Creighton University, who welcomed her mother, Angela Savell Flott into the Mu Iota (Mother Initiate) chapter of Delta Zeta. Here, Kayla and Angela reflect on what it means to share Delta Zeta together as mother and daughter.

Being part of my mom’s initiation is something I will cherish for the rest of my days. Traditionally, we think of a legacy being through the mother, grandmother or sister of a new member. Alumnae initiation in Delta Zeta is unique because we allow the idea of a legacy to be reversed; allowing new opportunities and friendships to women of all ages. My mom’s membership in Delta Zeta has unveiled a whole new layer to our relationship and friendship. It’s truly a special privilege as a daughter to be able to watch your mom enter into new phases of friendship, leadership and confidence, and Delta Zeta has allowed her the opportunity to do just that.

The alumnae initiation was an incredibly emotional and unforgettable milestone in my life. Being embraced so warmly by the very sisterhood that has guided and empowered my daughter filled me with immense pride and joy. It was a beautiful full circle moment, one that allowed us to share in something deeply meaningful and strengthen our bond in a way I never could have imagined. Having her beside me as I became a Delta Zeta, I felt an overwhelming sense of love, connection and purpose, not just with her, but with a community of women who uplift and inspire each other with grace and strength. It truly felt like finding a second family and uncovering a new layer of who I am. This experience is a memory my daughter and I will hold close to our hearts and cherish for the rest of our lives.
