Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most? Curiosity

Can you share a brief 5-7 sentence biography about yourself, highlight key moments in your career that have shaped who you are today?

Having the opportunity to be a Delta Zeta has shaped me into the woman that I am today. The leadership opportunities that I held during my time as a collegiate member, as well as a member of my Panhellenic Collegiate Council, helped prepare me for my career in the hospitality industry. I have had the opportunity to grow my career with Marriott Hotels and Concord Hospitality by working at three hotels across the United States in Iowa, Arizona and North Carolina (while also volunteering at various Delta Zeta chapters in these states). During my time in hospitality, I have been honored with various nominations for manager of the quarter and recently won manager of the quarter. I also received a nomination for manager of the year at my hotel and I received the esteemed Certified Meeting Professional certification over the past year.

Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from this friendship?

My most invaluable mentor from my professional career has been my first ever boss, Erin. Erin taught me that though technical skills for a job are important, it is also just as important to have an innate understanding of your team, and be able to fill in the gaps where your team lacks. She was vital in my development as a first-time leader!

How did you discover your passion and what opportunities have helped shape your curiosity for what you do?

I was originally looking for a career path that was different every day as I did not want a repetitive job. I had planned some events for the sorority, and other clubs in the past, and really enjoyed it. I realized it was something I could make a career out of it! I love staying involved in industry events such as NACE (National Association of Catering and Events) to shape my curiosity for the events industry.

Looking ahead in your career, how do you envision continuing to incorporate generosity into your leadership style and professional endeavors?

I plan to do this through mentoring and sharing my knowledge with others while creating opportunities for their advancement. I also want others to feel empowered to make decisions and praise them for what they do well.

How has your community helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?

My community has supported me both professionally and personally with every milestone and achievement that I have shared. I have sisters from all steps of life (I was honored to be a transfer student, so I get to call two DZ chapters home) who support me through everything.

What does empowerment mean to you, and how have you worked to empower others in your career or personal life?

For me, empowerment is giving others the confidence and opportunities to take ownership of their growth and success. I do this by ensuring that others feel valued and supported when taking risks, making decisions, and following their career aspirations.

What does it mean to you to create an environment of belonging for others, and how do you carry that lesson into your personal and professional life?

Creating an environment of belonging for others means that others feel welcomed and valued in their environment, and free to be their authentic selves without judgment. I always keep in mind the importance of treating others with respect and hoping that others will do the same for me. I carry this lesson into life by actively listening and acknowledging others, leading with empathy and encouraging a safe space for all.
