Courtney Albiker is a dedicated project manager in security services at Syracuse University, where she leads initiatives to enhance campus safety and security infrastructure. With a background in project management, public safety, and higher education administration, Courtney has played a pivotal role in implementing crime prevention strategies, security technology advancements and emergency preparedness initiatives. She holds a Master of Professional Studies in Project Management from Syracuse University, a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Performance Technology from SUNY Potsdam, and dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Mathematics and Global Supply Chain Management from Clarkson University.
Her career path is shaped by a commitment to problem-solving, innovation, and creating safe and inclusive environments. Earning her Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification was a defining moment, reinforcing her expertise in designing safer public spaces and advocating for best security practices. As a leader in a male-dominated industry, she strives to break barriers and make an impact professionally and in her community. Outside of her career, Courtney finds joy in creating magical moments with her family and giving back to her community through Echelon Syracuse – The Salvation Army and other service opportunities.
Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from this friendship?
The most invaluable mentors in my professional career have been the powerful women who lead from behind the scenes, making a positive impact on the world while balancing the demands of life and serving as primary caregivers for their families. Many of these women are sisters I have met throughout the years, while others are mentors I have sought out for guidance along my career path. From them, I have learned that true leadership isn’t always about being in the spotlight—it’s about driving meaningful change, advocating for others, and showing up with passion and purpose every day. I deeply appreciate each of these relationships and know that every connection is a treasured part of my journey. Their example continues to inspire me to pursue my goals with determination, grace, and generosity.
How did you discover your passion and what opportunities have helped shape your curiosity for what you do?
It has been a long journey to get where I am today, but my foundational values have never wavered. I have discovered that I thrive in the dynamic environment of college campuses, where my passion lies in enhancing safety and security for young adults as they discover their futures and develop their values. I have never enjoyed sitting still—whether in my professional life, where I am constantly seeking new challenges, or in my personal life, staying active with my family. I find fulfillment in tackling complex problems, uncovering opportunities for efficiency, and working to improve the community I am blessed to be a part of. My curiosity is driven by a desire to create meaningful change, ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Looking ahead in your career, how do you envision continuing to incorporate generosity into your leadership style and professional endeavors?
By continuously giving back and never settling for the status quo, I will incorporate generosity into my leadership by seeking opportunities to amplify the voices of those who need it most and advocating for equity within my community. I am committed to lifelong learning, ensuring I stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and best practices in safety and security. Looking ahead, I will continue to drive improvements in campus safety services, creating an environment where students feel protected, supported, and empowered to thrive. Generosity, to me, means investing in others, sharing knowledge, and using my platform to create meaningful change—a commitment I will carry forward in every stage of my career.
How has your community helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?
Community and relationships are everything. I was once told, ”It’s not what you know, but who you know,” and while I believe knowledge and hard work are essential, the relationships in my life have been instrumental in shaping my career path. Sisterhood is everything—just the other day, I ran into a Delta Zeta sister from my undergraduate chapter on campus, and it felt like a mini-reunion. Whether it’s seeing someone at the grocery store who recognizes the pink and green or reconnecting with sisters like Kass, Alicia, my Big, and my Little, these moments remind me of the lifelong bond we share. Their unwavering support has grounded me, bringing me back to who I am and what brings me joy. Without them—and all of my Delta Zeta sisters—I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
What does empowerment mean to you, and how have you worked to empower others in your career or personal life?
Empowerment means creating opportunities for others to grow, find their voice and succeed with confidence. It’s about removing barriers, providing support, and fostering an environment where people feel valued and capable. In my career, I empower others by advocating for safer, more inclusive spaces, ensuring that students, faculty, and staff have the security and resources they need to thrive. I lead with collaboration and mentorship, guiding teams through challenges and encouraging them to take on new opportunities with confidence.
In my personal life, empowerment means lifting those around me, whether it’s supporting fellow moms as we navigate life’s challenges, encouraging my daughters to chase their dreams, or giving back to my community through service, I believe true empowerment comes not just from leading but from inspiring others to believe in their potential.
What does it mean to you to create an environment of belonging for others, and how do you carry that lesson into your personal and professional life?
Creating an environment of belonging is essential to everything I do. To truly belong, individuals must feel safe, valued and empowered to thrive. In my career, I foster belonging by enhancing safety and security on campus, ensuring that every student, faculty, and staff member can focus on learning, growing and building their future without fear. Through strategic security initiatives, crime prevention planning, and collaborative efforts with campus leadership, I work to create spaces where everyone — regardless of background — feels protected, respected and supported.
In my personal life, I carry this lesson by building strong, inclusive relationships, whether with my family, friends or community. From mentoring others to creating welcoming spaces in every interaction, I strive to make sure people feel included, respected and empowered. Belonging isn’t just about being present — it’s about feeling secure and connected, and I am committed to fostering that connection in every aspect of my life.
