2021 Founders Day Proclamation

Delta Zeta Women's Membership Organization | Delta Zeta Sorority

“May the friendships we make, and the kindliness we have for each other, be everlasting.”

Founder Alfa Lloyd Hayes, who served as Delta Zeta’s National President from 1908-1912, wrote those words to delegates at the Golden Anniversary Convention in 1952. Alfa, having no daughters of her own, valued greatly the relationships she gained because of Delta Zeta.

One hundred and nineteen years ago, Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Julia Bishop, Mabelle Minton and Anne Simmons brought Delta Zeta Sorority into existence at one of the oldest public universities in the country. Among the first full-time women students at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, they knew the value of friendship and support grounded in a sisterhood that would last a lifetime. They lovingly passed that gift on to all members of our beloved Sorority.

More than 280,000 women have received the gift of Delta Zeta friendship. Yet so many of us may have felt isolated because of current world events. The knowledge that the lasting connections, made because of Delta Zeta, provide a light to guide us, even during difficult times. Reach out to a sister, even one who you may not know well, and celebrate this gift we have all received from Delta Zeta.

As all Delta Zeta members observe Founders Day, let us proudly wear our colors of rose and green in evidence of our dedication and loyalty to Delta Zeta.

Given under my hand and seal of the Sorority this 24th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-one and of the Sorority, the one hundred and nineteenth.

Christy Phillips-Brown

National President
