Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most?Empowerment
Tell us about a defining moment in your career so far – how did it impact your future and what did you learn from it?
Serving as Medtronic’s Chair of the Society of Women Engineers-Twin Cities was one of the most defining moments in my career. Leading a team of volunteers while balancing a full-time engineering role challenged me to grow as a leader, communicator and mentor. I learned that leadership is about creating a safe space where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, building connections and supporting one another. The experience shaped my future by showing me the impact of empowering others and advocating for inclusive communities. It gave me the confidence to pursue leadership opportunities, communicate with leaders, and continue creating environments where female STEM professionals grow and succeed.
What advice would you give Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership roles in your field?
My advice to Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership roles in engineering is to be intentional about sharing your goals and the impact you want to make. Do not wait for someone to recognize your potential—advocate for yourself and create opportunities to grow. Be the energy in the room, even when you do not know anyone there, and do not be afraid to bring your authentic self forward. Leadership requires confidence in your perspective, even when you are the only voice like yours at the table. Trust your expertise, share your ideas boldly and remember that your unique experiences are what make your leadership valuable.
How has being a Delta Zeta influenced your professional journey or approach to leadership?
Being a Delta Zeta hasshaped my approach to leadership by teaching me the power of genuine connection, shared growth and unity in action. Through the friendships and experiences I gained in Delta Zeta, I learned that strong communities are built when people feel valued, supported and encouraged to share their unique perspectives. Great leaders create spaces where others feel empowered to step outside their comfort zones, pursue growth, and contribute their ideas. I carry these lessons into my engineering career by building collaborative relationships, communicating across teams, and creating environments where people feel comfortable sharing ideas and driving meaningful impact.
