Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most?Curiosity
Tell us about a defining moment in your career so far – how did it impact your future and what did you learn from it?
A few years ago, I solo produced (shot, wrote and edited) a documentary about a cancer cluster in North Carolina. It was a project driven by a deep commitment to the people who trusted me with their stories. The documentary won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award, but what stayed with me far longer was seeing the community rally around the issue afterward. That experience reinforced why I became a journalist: not simply to tell compelling stories, but to produce reporting that informs people, holds institutions accountable and has the potential to make a tangible difference.
What advice would you give Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership roles in your field?
The news industry is undergoing profound change as artificial intelligence reshapes how information is created and audiences increasingly consume news in new ways. At the same time, the need for credible, independent journalism has never been greater. The future of the profession depends on journalists who are willing to embrace new tools and storytelling methods without compromising the core principles of accuracy, accountability and public service. My advice would be to lead with integrity, and feel empowered to bring new ideas to the table.
How has being a Delta Zeta influenced your professional journey or approach to leadership?
Delta Zeta taught me that leadership is rooted in service. Through my time in the chapter, I learned that the most effective leaders are the ones who build trust, invest in others and lead by example. Those lessons have carried into my career as an investigative journalist. Whether I’m earning the trust of vulnerable sources, collaborating with colleagues on complex investigations or mentoring younger reporters, I strive to lead with empathy, integrity and a genuine commitment to serving my community.
