Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most? Curiosity

Can you share a brief 5-7 sentence biography about yourself, highlight key moments in your career that have shaped who you are today?

As the Director of International Affairs at USC’s College of Hospitality, Retail and Sport Management, I manage international student services, study abroad programs and global learning experiences. With 15 years in international relations, a background in retail management and study abroad advising, I excel in partnership development and global outreach. Key moments that have shaped me include studying abroad and developing a love for international affairs at a young age. The first time I studied abroad was to Japan when I was 16 years old. This experience empowered me to seek future opportunities. When I was 17 years old, I received the prestigious Congress-Bundestag Youth Award, allowing me to study in Germany for my senior year of high school. Through this experience, I perfected my communication skills and gained leadership skills early on. This background allowed me to confidently participate in Delta Zeta’s recruitment in college, which was a huge accomplishment.

My current role is meaningful in a personal manner, as I can interact with the University of South Carolina’s Delta Zeta women.

Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from this friendship?

My boss at my first job was an invaluable mentor to me. I was working for Lilly Pulitzer and she taught me how to manage and help women find a sense of belonging while shopping. She shaped my work ethic and taught me how to be a good listener and always do what is right for the company.

How did you discover your passion and what opportunities have helped shape your curiosity for what you do?

I have always had a curiosity for different cultures and a desire to create meaningful connections. My commitment to global citizenship and passion for education and student success has helped shape a constant curiosity and interest for what I do.

Looking ahead in your career, how do you envision continuing to incorporate generosity into your leadership style and professional endeavors?

I would incorporate generosity into my leadership style the following ways:

-Dedicating time to mentor emerging professionals in international education

-Sharing best practices and lessons learned with colleagues

-Creating opportunities for team members to grow and develop

-Supporting new international education professionals or recent graduates

How has your community helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?

My virtual community of DZ Surfing Sisters has truly helped me professionally. I enjoy interacting with this group virtually and learning about the distinguished leaders. My Delta Zeta sister Kendall Magnan has been behind me every step of the way on my career journey. She’s been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. She has supported me through many beautiful phases of life!

What does empowerment mean to you, and how have you worked to empower others in your career or personal life?

Empowerment creates a ripple effect, where empowered individuals go on to empower others, building a stronger community. Through empowerment, I’ve witnessed:

-Students becoming global leaders

-Faculty developing innovative programs

-Staff members growing into leadership roles

-Partners creating sustainable collaborations

-Communities embracing international education

What does it mean to you to create an environment of belonging for others, and how do you carry that lesson into your personal and professional life?

To create an environment of belonging for others, there needs to be a foundation of belonging. To me, belonging means feeling valued and accepted, having a voice that’s heard and being part of a supportive community. I attempt to create belonging every day at home with my family and friends, and at work.
