Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most?Belonging
Tell us about a defining moment in your career so far – how did it impact your future and what did you learn from it?
A defining moment in my career wasstarting the Refugee and Immigrant Student Embassy group at our high school. It began as a small group of students who wanted to find a place to belong. I learned what the students were looking for from their high school experience and became a collaborator, using my platform as a staff member to advocate for what they highlighted as important. Seeing the group grow to more than 60 members and become a place students can find community, belonging and support demonstrated the importance that leadership can also mean allowing others to lead while you listen.
What advice would you give Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership roles in your field?
To be a leader in community and social services, it is important to embody courage, curiosity and centering justice. Lead with humility; give graciously of your expertise to elevate community voices rather thanspeaking over them. Embrace growth; be a continuous learner to challenge systemic barriers. Finally, build cross–sector partnerships grounded in understanding and appreciation, as real, meaningful impact is created through community and collaboration.
How has being a Delta Zeta influenced your professional journey or approach to leadership?
Delta Zeta’s promise to crusade for justice and give graciously is directly connected to my career in community and social services. Leading community partnerships and refugee education initiatives requires the insight, courage and commitment to lifelong learning our Creed emphasizes.
Whether securing resources for newcomer students or building district-wide equity frameworks, my leadership is fueled by a commitment to continuous growth and defending the justice of educational access. Delta Zeta taught me that impactful leadership is not about authority; it is about elevating and empowering others, fostering deep belonging and ensuring my daily service is anchored in curiosity, generosity and community.
