Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most? Empowerment

Tell us about a defining moment in your career so far – how did it impact your future and what did you learn from it?

A defining moment in my career was embracing the Science of Reading and committing to being a lifelong learner. It meant challenging long-held instructional practices and leading through change, even when change felt uncomfortable. By serving as a catalyst for evidence-based practices, I walked alongside colleagues and families, building their understanding and confidence to do what is best for every child. Watching colleagues embrace new learning and seeing students thrive reinforced that lasting change happens when we empower others. I learned that effective leadership requires courage, continuous learning, and a willingness to lead with purpose, even when the path is unfamiliar.

What advice would you give Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership roles in your field?

My advice to Delta Zeta sisters pursuing leadership is to remain lifelong learners. Stay curious, ask questions, seek feedback, and never stop growing. The strongest leaders recognize they do not have all the answers and are always willing to learn from others. In education, leadership is about serving students, families, colleagues and the community while empowering those around you to do what is best for kids. Every decision should be guided by the impact it has on students, because they are the future of our world. Lead with humility, purpose and a commitment to helping others succeed.

How has being a Delta Zeta influenced your professional journey or approach to leadership?

Being a Delta Zeta has shaped my leadership by teaching me to value and respect perspectives different from my own. It reinforced that leadership serves a purpose greater than personal success and is rooted in generosity, service and shared growth. Through Delta Zeta, I learned the importance of building trusting relationships and the lasting power of meaningful connection. These lessons guide how I collaborate, listen and empower others in my professional work. The opportunities for personal and professional development also strengthened my confidence and willingness to lead. I strive to create environments where people feel valued, supported and inspired to grow together.
