Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most? Community
How did you discover your passion for what you do, and what opportunities have helped shape your career?
I found my passion in Event Planning as an intern for UNC Charlotte’s University Events team. The leadership team there encourages interns to make connections with other university leadership, and that is how I met the boss I have today!
Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from them?
My manager, Ann, has been my most fierce supporter of my career and personal life. She is my first and only post-grad manager and has pushed me to be my best self. She is tough, fair and expects a lot from her team while also giving us the tools to be our very best selves. She has given me opportunities to grow that have helped my career significantly. From her I have learned how to be a good leader and manager when that time comes for me. I have learned that the best way to work is to hire good people and trust them to do the job they are hired to do. I have learned how to balance policy and compassion as well as how to be a strong woman in business from her.
What words of wisdom or advice do you live by?
”I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. What I can do, I ought to do, and what I ought to do, by the Grace of God, I will do.” – Bonnie E. Cone
What is the most impactful book you have read, or podcast you have listened to, that relates to you professionally? What made it so impactful?
I really enjoy the “Fun On Weekdays” podcast by Jenna Palek. It has helped me learn to enjoy the time when I have it instead of living for the weekends. The podcast really touches on living in the moment and creating work/life balances that are crucial to your mental health.
How do you make sure you stay connected with your professional network?
One of my favorite ways to stay connected with my professional network is by attending UNC Charlotte Alumni events. I have been able to connect with professionals from similar businesses through our common love for Niner Nation!
How have friendships helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?
The friendships that I have created, both within and outside of Delta Zeta, have been a source of support and inspiration for me professional and personally. My two very best friends since middle school, Tiffany and Anna, help remind me why I do what I love to do every day. My sorority sisters turned friends, Sam and Katherine, constantly push me and support me in all of my projects and endeavors.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Baking!
