Which of the Delta Zeta shared values resonates with you the most?
How did you discover your passion for what you do, and what opportunities have helped shape your career?
From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be in real estate development, but it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I entertained interior design. My time on the Executive Board with Delta Zeta initially taught me how to lead, network and so much more, which has helped tremendously when working with clients across middle Tennessee.
Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from them?
Heather Melton, who is an alumnae of the Beta Lambda Chapter and was also our Recruitment Advisor during my time in the Sorority, has been a wonderful mentor and advisor to me over the years. Her influence has taught me patience, persistence and generosity in both personal and professional life.
What words of wisdom or advice do you live by?
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
What is the most impactful book you have read, or podcast you have listened to, that relates to you professionally? What made it so impactful?
“The Go Getter” by Peter B. Kyne was given to me by my father when I graduated. It emphasizes the value of exceeding expectations at every opportunity. The central theme revolves around initiative, determination and relentless pursuit of success. This book has been so special to me, as it has been in my family since the early 1980s. My father reread it every few years during my childhood to keep his perspective fresh.
How do you make sure you stay connected with your professional network?
My interests have led me towards community groups that focus on design in the commercial real estate market. I’m a member of CRE615, which is a community of many different professionals in the commercial real estate community in Nashville. Events range from happy hours to panel sessions, charitable fundraisers and more. I have also connected with the Young Designers Collective through various events that center on developing the upcoming generation of designers in the Nashville community.
How have friendships helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?
Heather Melton, Mackenzie Cripps, Brittany Schwam (Dugger), Heather Hubbard, Samantha Garcia, Harleigh Burtis, Caroline Durgee and Reagan Frazier are just a few sisters whom have cheered me on, from near or far, since being initiated in 2014. The bond I have with these women is so special, and I couldn’t be more thankful for their support over the years!
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Travel, enjoy the weekends with my husband, and take lots of walks!
