How did you discover your passion for what you do, and what opportunities have helped shape your career?

At 16, I witnessed firsthand the impact of cancer on my loved ones. The emotional toll and sense of helplessness that often accompany a cancer diagnosis left an indelible mark on me. It sparked a fervent determination to take action, to channel my energy and talents towards a cause greater than myself.

This aspiration was not merely a fleeting dream but a calling that guided my academic and career choices. I pursued studies in biomedical sciences, which brought me closer to understanding the complexities of cancer and the urgent need for innovative solutions.

Though the journey towards finding a cure for cancer is undoubtedly challenging and fraught with obstacles, my determination remains unwavering. I am driven by the belief that with dedication, collaboration and relentless pursuit of knowledge, we can one day realize the dream of a world without cancer. And until that day comes, I will continue to channel my passion, my energy and my expertise towards making that dream a reality.

Who has been an invaluable mentor for your professional career? What did you learn from them?

Tina, my former boss, holds a special place in my heart as a mentor whose guidance and support were instrumental in paving the way for my career advancement. From the moment I joined the team, Tina’s leadership style stood out for its blend of wisdom, compassion and unwavering dedication to nurturing talent within the organization.

Under her mentorship, I experienced firsthand the transformative power of effective leadership. She possessed a rare ability to recognize the potential in others and empower them to excel beyond their perceived limitations. One of the most impactful aspects of Tina’s mentorship was her emphasis on fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. She encouraged me to take on new challenges, stretch myself beyond my comfort zone, and embrace opportunities for skill development and advancement.

It was under Tina’s guidance that I embarked on the path to promotion within Iovance. Through her mentorship, I honed my skills, expanded my knowledge base and demonstrated my readiness to take on increased responsibilities. Tina championed my candidacy for promotion, providing invaluable support and advocacy throughout the process.

As I reflect on my time working with Tina, I am reminded of the profound influence that a supportive mentor can have on shaping the trajectory of one’s career. Her mentorship has left an indelible mark on my life, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have learned from her wisdom, guidance and unwavering belief in my potential.

What words of wisdom or advice do you live by?

”Look, I don’t want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you’re alive you’ve got to flap your arms and legs, you’ve got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at very least think noisy and colorfully, or you’re not alive.” Mel Brooks

How have friendships helped you professionally? Is there a friend (or Delta Zeta sister) that has been behind you every step of the way on your career journey?

Deb Clayton holds a special place in my heart as both a mentor within Delta Zeta and a guiding force in my professional journey. Her unwavering support, guidance and friendship have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth, and her impact on my life cannot be overstated.

From the moment I met Deb within the Delta Zeta sisterhood, her warmth, wisdom and genuine care for others shone through. As a mentor, she took me under her wing, offering valuable advice, encouragement and perspective as I navigated the challenges and opportunities of sorority life outside of college.
