Reflecting back on 2020, how did you adapt to so many aspects of life moving virtual?
Working in the tech industry meant I was no stranger to virtual meetings and events. I was not, however, prepared for how challenging it would be to balance motherhood and working at home. Our son did not adjust well, so I was forced to leave my job to be there for him and help him along. He started kindergarten this past Fall, but did so remotely, so I have essentially been teaching him. It’s been an adjustment for us but in some ways, it has helped us grow as a family. We’ve slowed down and focused on the important things instead of running here and there.
How do you make sure you stay connected with your professional network?
Since I haven’t been working in a year due to COVID and having to pivot to being a stay-at-home mom, it’s been more important than ever for me to stay connected. I’ve had several speaking engagements, participated in virtual meetups, and chat one-on-one with others in the industry whenever I’m given the chance. I am constantly interacting with my peers on Twitter, Slack and (most recently) Clubhouse.
