Finding friendship after college can seem like a challenge. Paige Hughes Tucker, Xi Nu-Tarleton State (TX), and I met by chance at a Delta Zeta Austin (TX) Alumnae Chapter meeting in the fall of 1991. We remember noticing each other because of how close in age we were. After getting to know one another, we soon realized we were at the same stage in life and decided to attend alumnae events together.
Although we were members of different collegiate chapters, Delta Zeta alumnae events after college brought us together. Over the years, we served together on the House Corporation Board, Recruitment forums, the Austin Alumnae Executive Board and most recently, ten years as the Delta Zeta representatives of the Austin Alumnae Panhellenic Association. One of my favorite community service opportunities is The Dog Alliance Bow Wow Readers Program. This program gives young children struggling to read the opportunity to read to a dog, one on one. I have been in the program with my dachshund, Baby, for more than four years and thought Paige would love it as well. When she got her Australian Shepherd, Cooper, it turned out to be a perfect fit.
