(Oxford, OHIO) Delta Zeta Sorority has received the 2007-2008 Prevention Excellence Award from Outside The Classroom, the leader in online alcohol prevention programs used on more than 450 college and high school campuses nationwide.
Brian Busteed, CEO of Outside the Classroom, said, "The award is given for Delta Zeta's development, programmatic and organizational linkages and implementation of their collegiate educational programs used in conjunction with AlcoholEdu, Outside The Classroom's flagship product, which has set the standard for online alcohol prevention for student groups. Most importantly, it is a testament to Delta Zeta's investment in creating optimal conditions in which students can learn."
Those programs include i Have a Choice, in support of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, which educates college-age students about the dangers of alcohol abuse and inspires them to examine their lifestyles and make informed decisions regarding those substances; and Tapping Into Your True Potential, which educates collegiate members on how to implement behavioral and health changes to increase their self-esteem and maintain physical and mental balance.
AlcoholEdu is part of the Sorority's New Member Education Program, and program completion is required for initiation into Delta Zeta. The course is confidential, personalized for each student, and includes interactive exercises. The Delta Zeta Foundation underwrites a significant portion of the cost of AlcoholEdu for College with gifts made by alumnae and parents of new members.
Delta Zeta will also receive national recognition from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators(NASPA) for the award and for the Sorority's ability to develop, implement and sustain comprehensive alcohol prevention and education.
Delta Zeta Sorority was founded on Miami University's campus in Oxford, Ohio in 1902. The Sorority has over 207,000 alumnae and collegiate members in the United States and Canada. The Delta Zeta Foundation, a non-profit organization, makes possible gifts and support for scholarships, leadership, philanthropy, and education.
