2019 Founders Day Proclamation

October 24, 2019

To be read at your chapter meeting the week of October 20

Our membership in Delta Zeta is truly a gift. When each of us stood with our sisters, and took the oath of membership during initiation, we received the gift of everlasting sisterhood and friendship. The most amazing experience about this gift is that when we pass it on, we don’t lose anything, but, rather we gain so much more.

Delta Zeta has gained over 266,000 friends because of six truly amazing women. Our Founders have given each of us a gift which is ours to share. If Julia, Anne, Anna, Alfa, Mary and Mabelle were with us today, they would see that their dreams of a sisterhood based on shared values is alive and well.

Founder Alfa Lloyd Hayes, who served as Delta Zeta’s National President from 1908–1912, said, “We must grow, not just in number, but in strength and character as well. Remember, that Delta Zeta always calls for the highest and best that is in you.”

Alfa’s words still touch our hearts and ring true in the lifelong friendships we share. Delta Zeta’s values — friendship, curiosity, generosity, citizenship, empowerment and belonging — are brought to life every day through our actions — no matter when we joined.

As our sisterhood observes Founders Day, let us proudly wear our colors of rose and green in evidence of our dedication and faith in Delta Zeta.

Given under my hand and seal of the Sorority this 24th day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and nineteen and of the Sorority, the one hundred and seventeenth.
